The La Prison des Patriotes Exhibition Centre stands as a solemn and essential place of remembrance, preserving a defining chapter in Québec’s history. Once a detention site, it became a symbol of repression during the events of 1837–1840, when numerous Patriotes were imprisoned for their political convictions—twelve of whom were ultimately executed for high treason against the British Crown.
At the heart of the site, the permanent exhibition Between Armed Resistance and Insurrection, Chapter 2 offers a thoughtful and immersive interpretation of this period. Through carefully curated displays and historical artefacts, visitors gain insight into the conditions of incarceration and the broader context of the Patriotes’ struggle.
Both educational and deeply moving, the experience invites reflection on ideals of freedom, identity, and resilience—presented within an architectural setting that continues to bear witness to the past.
