Founded by passionate patrons Pierre and Anne-Marie Trahan, Arsenal Contemporary Art is a boldly visionary private art centre and cultural initiative with a deep and genuine commitment to supporting the creation, production, and dissemination of contemporary Canadian art. Through a dynamic programme of exhibitions — organized both in-house and by guest curators — Arsenal brings Canadian artists into compelling dialogue with some of the most exciting international voices in the contemporary art world.

First opening its doors in Montréal in 2011, Arsenal has since expanded its reach to New York, where it has operated as a commercial gallery since 2017 — a testament to its growing influence and unwavering ambition on the international stage.

At the heart of Griffintown, on the storied north bank of the Lachine Canal, Arsenal Contemporary Art Montréal occupies a magnificent former 19th-century shipyard — a beautifully renovated 80,000-square-foot building that wears its industrial heritage with quiet pride. Within these extraordinary walls, several major exhibitions of Canadian and international artists are presented each year, each one a celebration of the very best in contemporary creation.

Adding yet another layer of richness to the Arsenal experience is the Collection Majudia — a permanent collection with its very own dedicated exhibition space. Shared openly with the public, the collection is a heartfelt invitation to discover, fall in love with, and be inspired to collect contemporary art — with a special emphasis on the extraordinary talent of Canadian contemporary artists.
